Chapter 11

9:32 pm

Austin Texas

Jan 12, 2000

“I just drove through Texarkana, so I should make it there tomorrow night,” George said. Dee was standing in the driveway of his and Channie’s house. He didn’t like to discuss business in front of his girl, so he always took his business calls outside, or to the garage.

“That’s cool, call me when you get to Austin and I’ll meet you. You can follow me back to Sam’s. You ain’t have no problems did you, everything alright?” Dee fired back.

“Naw, everything good youngsta. I really wish I could’ve brought my ol’ lady along, but we’re taking a cruise in a month or so for our anniversary, so she’ll be alright till then.”

“Oh yeah, congratulations. How long y’all been together?”

“About fifteen years youngsta, a lifetime to you young people today,” stated George. “Yeah, that’s a long time Unc, especially to be with one woman, but I ain’t mad at you though.”

“Youngsta, let me get off this phone, I’m about to find a spot to crash for the night. I’ll call you when I hit Austin that’s cool?”

“Cool with me, I’ll holla at you tomorrow.”

“Aight,” George said and hung up. Dee hung up his phone as well and debated on whether he should call Samantha to let her know she’d have her vehicle back in a day or so. He knew if he did she would beg to see him and he hated telling her no. She was so nice and good to him. She’d even asked him what she had to do in order for him to leave Channie. Dee told her he wasn’t planning on leaving Channie until he had something together. Samantha had said that was cool, but Dee knew it really wasn’t. Samantha even told Dee if he left Channie she’d propose to him and buy the rings! Dee laughed at that, and she laughed too, but Dee suspected that she was very serious. He blew out a long breath and decided he’d call her. If anything, he’d see her tomorrow at some point, so she would have to be happy with that.

“Hello?”

“Hello baby,” Dee said.

“Oh, hello handsome, how are you doing this evening?”

“Better now that I’ve heard the voice of an angel,” Dee answered. He knew he was coming at her with a little too much game, but it never hurt to make her feel good. Samantha laughed at Dee’s remark.

“Oh, I’m an angel, huh? Well, this angel is lonely, so why don’t you come and pay me a little visit?”

“Well, that’s one of the reasons I’m calling, to let you know that me and my uncle gonna be coming to visit you tomorrow evening.”

“Oh, he’s coming back already?” Samantha asked.

“You know babe, it’s actually been over sixty days I hope you won’t get in any trouble over eight or nine days?” answered Dee.

“No, it should be alright. I have a lot of pull at the dealership, so don’t worry about it sweetheart. What time should I expect you tomorrow?”

“Probably in the
